Primary: 8:30am-5:00pm

Secondary: 8:00am-4:30pm

On-call as scheduled, holiday call as scheduled

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Interventional Radiology Nurses provide patient care during minimally invasive, image-guided procedures.  The IR Nurse provides critical nursing care to the patient while assisting the Interventional Radiologist, Vascular Surgeon, in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures. They closely monitor the patient for complications, administers medications including moderate sedation, documents the procedure, and also may circulate into procedures. IR nurses also play an important role in the care of the IR patient pre and post operatively as well as providing communication and patient education. The IR Nurse also is required to cover all areas of Radiology (CT, MRI, Nuc. Med) and the exams that may need nursing assistance.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Skills Required:

1. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

2. Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

3. BLS and ACLS required within 2 months of hire.

4. Completion of Radiation Safety within six (6) months.

5. Meets requirements of physical/pre-placement screening.

6. Must be able to take call.

7. At least 2 years of acute inpatient nursing experience or procedural nursing experience within the prior 5 years is required.

8. Prior Interventional Radiology nursing experience preferred.

9. Competent in IV Therapy and venipuncture required, port access preferred.

10. Prior knowledge and experience in pre and post-operative care preferred.


As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.

Requirements:

  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of New York required.
  • Appropriate experience in specific clinical area. Varies by unit.
